Q. Is this event a competition? What are the rules?
 
A: Shooting for the Future will be a standard sporting clays event with 12-15 shooting stations. For a description of sporting clays events, click here.
 
Q. Will there be prizes or awards?
 
A: Yes. The top teams will be awarded trophies and gift certificates from local restaurants. Also there will be several raffles for prizes throughout the day.
 
Q. Are non-shooting spectators/guests permitted?
 
A: Yes. Meal tickets for non-shooting guests will be available for purchase at the event.
 
Q. Will children be permitted to participate?
 
A: Yes. Children must be supervised at all times by an adult. All event facility rules for underage shooters will apply.
 
Q. What kinds of firearms are permitted?
 
A: Any shotgun that’s in safe working condition and capable of firing at least two shots, may be used. Any gauge can be used, but the most popular are 12 and 20 gauge. Many shooters like to shoot an over/under because it gives them two choke choices. Shooters who tend to be sensitive to recoil might prefer gas-operated semiautomatics. No riot guns will be allowed (your gun must have full stock and minimum 21" barrel).
 
Q. Do I need to bring my own shotgun or will shotguns be available for rent?
 
A: A limited number of shotguns may be available for rent from the event facility, but we strongly recommend that you bring your own or make arrangements with the event facility in advance to guarantee availability of a shotgun on event day.
 
Q. Do I need to bring my own ammunition and clays?
 
A: No. Clays and 12 gauge shotgun shells will be provided at no additional cost. However, if you are using a shotgun other than 12 gauge you must purchase ammunition from the event facility. You must use the provided ammunition or ammunition purchased on-site.
 
Q. What happens in the event of rain?
 
A: Unless bad weather poses a safety risk, the event will go on as planned. In the event of severe weather or other cancellation beyond our control, registration fees will be non-refundable. For up-to-date information and last minute announcements, please visit our news page.
 
Q. What should I do in case of accident or other emergency?
 
A: In case of serious injury or other emergency, call 911 immediately. Once assistance is on the way, make sure your range officer is aware of the situation or contact the Top Fun staff at (972) 322-7625.
 
Q. How will the funds raised for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Collin County help their mission?
 
A: Funds raised from this event will go to help the Boys and Club of Collin County maintain and expand services and programs to the children who need them most. In particular, the facilities used by the Boys and Girls club are in need of improvement. A portion of the funds raised during this event may be used for that purpose.
 
Q. Is my registration fee tax deductible?
 
A: The McKinney Kiwanis Foundation is a registered 501(c)3 charitable non-profit organization. Some or all of your registration fee may be tax deductible, depending on your circumstances. Please check with your tax professional to determine which portion if any may be deducted.
